| Note: The data for land management practices are reported for the year preceding the census year. 1. Conversion factor: 1 hectare equals 2.471 acres. 2. Since 1996, the area of land that was treated with herbicides, insecticides and fungicides was under-reported. Some respondents reported chemical expenses but not any corresponding areas to which these chemicals were applied. Telephone follow-up with a sample of these respondents confirmed that some respondents had mistakenly reported for the current year instead of the previous year as requested and, when they completed their questionnaires for 1996 to 2006, the chemicals purchased had not yet been applied.
